N’djili International (FZAA/FIH) serves a country where private aviation is less a luxury than a necessity. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is the size of western Europe with very little functioning road network between its major cities, and for most journeys of any distance flying is the only realistic option.
Lubumbashi, the mining centre in the south-east, is roughly as far from Kinshasa as London is from Moscow. Goma and Bukavu in the east are further still. These are not sectors anyone drives, and the charter demand reflects that — mining, humanitarian and institutional traffic rather than leisure.
