Africa by Private Jet: Signature Journeys, Itineraries & Costs

Explore Africa by private jet with a 10-day flagship itinerary and 10 signature journeys spanning safari, coast, mountains, rivers, desert and islands.

Africa by private jet makes the most sense when the aircraft removes the dead time between places that are genuinely worth combining. For a ten-day privately arranged journey, I would not try to collect countries. I would build one clean line through four very different chapters: an exceptional safari, the Swahili coast, the Zambezi at Victoria Falls, and Cape Town.

A 10-day Africa by private jet itinerary that does not feel rushed

Maasai Mara → Zanzibar → Victoria Falls → Cape Town. Start the trip in Nairobi, use a bush aircraft for the Mara, then use private jet sectors between the paved international gateways. Finish in Cape Town, where long-haul connections make the journey home easy.

The route moves in one direction and uses private aviation where it removes real friction. The aircraft is selected around the runway and sector rather than kept artificially consistent throughout the trip.

A realistic 10-day Africa private jet itinerary

This is deliberately not the itinerary with the most pins on a map. Ten days is short enough that every transfer has to earn its place. Three nights in the Mara gives the safari a real chance to deliver; two nights in Zanzibar resets the pace; two nights at Victoria Falls is enough for the Falls and the Zambezi; and two nights in Cape Town gives the trip a proper finish rather than another airport connection.

Days 1–3
3 nights

1. Maasai Mara, Kenya — start with the safari

Why stop here: For a first short trip across Africa, I would spend the biggest block of time on the strongest wildlife experience. The Mara gives you open savannah, big-cat country and, seasonally, the Great Migration without adding another long road transfer.

Fly from Nairobi to the airstrip used by your camp in a Caravan, PC-12, King Air or another aircraft approved for the strip. This is exactly where “private jet” should not be interpreted too literally: forcing a business jet into the bush is less useful than taking the right bush aircraft and landing close to the lodge.

Hotel I would choose: Mahali MzuriA small, high-end safari camp in the Greater Mara ecosystem. It suits this itinerary because the accommodation is an experience in itself, so the three safari nights do not feel like a transit stop.
Check Mahali Mzuri on Expedia ↗

Next flight: Maasai Mara → Zanzibar. The exact routing depends on the camp airstrip, aircraft and customs/immigration arrangements. Your operator may route the bush sector through a suitable gateway before continuing internationally; that is normal and should be planned as one movement rather than improvised on the day.

Days 4–5
2 nights

2. Zanzibar, Tanzania — change the rhythm completely

Why stop here: After early safari mornings, Zanzibar gives the trip contrast: warm Indian Ocean water, Swahili history, seafood and a slower day. For only two nights, I would stay close to Stone Town rather than spend a large part of the stay driving to and from a remote beach resort.

Use the first afternoon for Stone Town and the waterfront, then keep the second day almost empty: beach, spa, dhow or a private boat. The point of this stop is recovery, not another checklist.

Hotel I would choose: Park Hyatt ZanzibarBeachfront in Stone Town and close to Zanzibar Airport, so it is particularly efficient on a two-night private-aviation itinerary. If you extend Zanzibar to three or four nights, a north-coast resort becomes more attractive.
Check Park Hyatt Zanzibar on Expedia ↗

Next flight: Zanzibar (ZNZ) → Victoria Falls (VFA). This is where the jet begins to justify itself: a direct charter avoids building the day around airline schedules and connections.

Days 6–7
2 nights

3. Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe — add a natural wonder, not another safari

Why stop here: In a ten-day trip I would choose Victoria Falls over immediately adding a second safari reserve. The Zambezi and the Falls change the visual scale of the journey and break up the bush–beach–bush pattern.

One day can focus on the Falls and viewpoints; the other can be the river, helicopter flight, sunset cruise or simply time at the lodge. Water levels change dramatically through the year, so the character of the experience changes too — high water is about scale and spray, lower water gives clearer rock formations and different activities.

Hotel I would choose: Matetsi Victoria FallsA luxury lodge on the Zambezi with a private-reserve setting. It keeps the trip feeling wild while still giving easy access to the Falls — a better fit here than moving into a conventional town hotel.
Check Matetsi Victoria Falls on Expedia ↗

Next flight: Victoria Falls (VFA) → Cape Town (CPT). Both ends are paved international airports, so this is a straightforward private-jet sector compared with the Mara portion of the trip.

Days 8–10
2 nights

4. Cape Town, South Africa — finish somewhere you could stay longer

Why stop here: Cape Town is the right ending because it does not feel like a decompression night before the flight home. You can do Table Mountain and the Atlantic seaboard, spend a day in the Winelands, or simply use the Waterfront as a base. It is also a major international gateway, so the trip finishes cleanly.

With only two nights, pick one main day: either Cape Peninsula/coast or Stellenbosch/Franschhoek. Trying to do both is exactly the kind of over-scheduling this itinerary is designed to avoid.

Hotel I would choose: One&Only Cape TownA polished Waterfront base with quick access to the city and a relatively simple airport transfer. It works especially well for a short final stop because you do not need another domestic positioning flight or long road transfer.
Check One&Only Cape Town on Expedia ↗

Day 10: Depart Cape Town on your long-haul flight, or continue privately if the aircraft mission is part of a wider trip.

One important timing assumption: this 10-day plan works best if Day 1 starts in Nairobi or your long-haul flight arrives early enough to continue to the Mara. If you land late in Nairobi, add one night there and treat this as an 11-day itinerary rather than cutting a safari night.

Why I would choose these four stops

The common mistake with an Africa private jet itinerary is assuming that more flying should mean more destinations. The opposite is usually true. The aircraft should remove dead time, not create a holiday that consists of packing every morning.

Stop What it contributes Why it earns its place
Maasai Mara Classic safari The highest-value use of the first three nights: wildlife needs time, and flying into the reserve avoids a long road transfer.
Zanzibar Indian Ocean + Swahili culture Complete change of pace after safari, with an international airport that connects efficiently into the next sector.
Victoria Falls Natural wonder + Zambezi Adds something fundamentally different instead of repeating another safari immediately.
Cape Town City + coast + wine Strong final contrast and an easy international exit point.

Would I really do Africa by private jet in only 10 days?

Yes — but 10 days is the lower edge for a four-stop trans-African trip. Private aviation makes the routing possible, but it does not make check-in, immigration, weather, luggage, lodge transfers and human fatigue disappear. If you have 12 or 13 days, I would first add time to the same route rather than automatically add another country.

The most important aircraft decision: do not insist on one jet

A good African itinerary is built around the runway, not the brochure photo of the aircraft. The Maasai Mara and many other safari regions are served by shorter, often unpaved strips. A Caravan, PC-12, King Air or similar bush-capable aircraft is often far more useful there than a business jet. Zanzibar, Victoria Falls and Cape Town are a different problem: paved airports, international formalities and longer sectors where a jet provides the real time advantage.

For this reason, “Africa by private jet” often means a jet on the trunk sectors plus the right turboprop at the bush end. That is not a compromise. It is the operationally sensible version of the trip.

See the privatejet.africa fleet guide for the aircraft categories we use in estimates.

How should you price a 10-day multi-stop private jet trip?

Do not start with a single “Africa private jet tour price.” There is no reliable fixed number. The same itinerary can change substantially with passenger count, aircraft location, dates, airport fees, crew duty limits, permits and positioning.

  1. Price the long sectors first. Use the private jet search.
  2. Price the bush connection separately.
  3. Then send the complete itinerary as one enquiry.
  4. Ask where the aircraft is positioning from.

Our pricing methodology explains how the estimates on privatejet.africa are built.

Africa by private jet: signature journeys

There is no reason to fly privately across Africa just to reproduce an airline itinerary at a higher price. The aircraft becomes interesting when the journey has a point of view: follow the continent north to south, build around altitude, trace the Swahili coast, move from desert into delta, or link islands that are awkward to combine on scheduled services.

The privatejet.africa collection

Ten journeys. No fixed departures.

Each route is an editorial starting point for a privately arranged journey. The sequence, aircraft, hotels and number of nights should be adapted around the traveller rather than sold as a standard package.

How to choose:
Start with the story you want the trip to tell. Aircraft and airports come second. For most clients, 3–5 meaningful stops will feel more exclusive than 7–8 rushed ones.

Private jet travel in Africa: what is different?

Private aviation is especially useful in Africa when the itinerary combines places that are individually easy to reach but awkward to connect to each other. The value is often not that a jet flies dramatically faster than an airline. It is that you can connect the right airports, on the right day, in the right sequence without losing a night to a hub connection.

Distance is only half the problemTwo destinations can look close on a map and still require an airline connection through a major hub.
Bush strips change the aircraftGood planning often means a jet between gateways and a Caravan, PC-12, King Air or similar aircraft for the final bush sector.
Positioning matters enormouslyA low hourly rate does not guarantee a low quote if the aircraft first has to fly empty to collect you.
Cross-border flying needs planningInternational sectors involve permissions, customs and immigration arrangements, handling and airport constraints.
One itinerary should be priced as one missionGive the operator the entire route so aircraft use, crew and positioning can be optimized.
Private does not mean unrestrictedRunway limits, weather, payload, permits, crew duty and airport rules still apply.

Frequently asked questions

Is 10 days enough for Africa by private jet?

Yes, if you keep it to about four stops and use the aircraft to remove long transfer days. For a first trans-African trip, 10 days is the lower practical edge; 12–13 days feels noticeably more relaxed.

What is the best 10-day Africa private jet itinerary?

For a first trip, I would choose Nairobi/Maasai Mara, Zanzibar, Victoria Falls and Cape Town.

Can one private jet fly the whole itinerary?

Usually that is not the best plan when a safari airstrip is involved. Use a bush-capable turboprop for the Mara and a jet for the longer paved-airport sectors.

Does privatejet.africa operate these flights?

No. privatejet.africa is a charter price-comparison and introduction platform, not an air carrier or tour operator.

Flight times, routings and aircraft categories on this page are planning guidance only. Final suitability depends on the exact airstrip/airport, runway and weather conditions, aircraft performance, payload, permits, crew limitations and operator approval.
