Douala International (FKKD/DLA) is Cameroon’s economic capital and the main charter departure point for the country, ahead of Yaoundé, which holds the political function. It is also a market where the pricing on this page needs a word of explanation, because no aircraft is based here in our fleet data.
With no resident fleet at Douala, every charter starts with an empty leg flown in to collect you — most often from Libreville, Abidjan, Lagos or Accra depending on the aircraft. That cost is included in every estimate below, and on shorter sectors it is the larger part of the total.
Two things follow. A same-day return is markedly better value per leg than a one-way, because the positioning is spread across both. Douala’s rainfall is exceptional even by equatorial standards. The wet season runs from roughly June to October and delivers sustained, heavy rain rather than the brief afternoon storms typical elsewhere in West Africa. Low cloud and reduced visibility are common through those months.
Flights operate throughout, but schedule reliability is genuinely lower than in the drier months, and building slack into a tight itinerary is sensible. The drier window from November to February, though it coincides with a weaker harmattan influence this far south, is the more dependable time to fly. Douala is at sea level, so at least there is no altitude penalty on top of the weather.
Cameroon requires landing and overflight permissions for foreign-registered aircraft, processed in working days. Central African routings are among the more demanding on the continent for paperwork, and a multi-country trip through the region needs its permits lined up well in advance rather than assembled at short notice. Allow more lead time here than you would for East or Southern Africa.

Charter flights use Douala International Airport (FKKD / DLA), with a longest runway of 9,350 ft at 33 ft elevation. Private departures are handled through the general aviation terminal or an FBO where one operates, which is a considerably faster process than the main passenger terminal.
