KwaZulu-Natal is subtropical and its summer, from November to March, is hot, humid and wet, with heavy afternoon thunderstorms and occasional coastal low systems bringing sustained rain. Winter, from May to August, is dry, mild and the most settled flying weather of the year.
Demand peaks over the December school holidays, when the Johannesburg to Durban corridor carries substantial leisure traffic to the KZN coast, and one-way pricing in that period reflects the directional imbalance.
