Private Jet from Lagos to Abuja

Lagos to Abuja by private jet: about 1h05 in a jet, which terminals to use, Lagos traffic, harmattan delays, paying in naira and how to check an operator is licensed.

A private jet from Lagos to Abuja spends about 1h05 in the air in a light jet, and 1h20 to 1h30 in a turboprop. On paper that is only a little quicker than the airlines. The real saving is everything around the flight: no check-in queue at Murtala Muhammed, no waiting on a delayed departure, and a car at the steps when you land in Abuja.

Worth knowing first: Most of Nigeria’s charter aircraft are parked in Lagos, which works in your favour on this leg: the aircraft usually starts where you do, so you are not paying to fly it in empty. If you need to come back, put the return in the same request.

How long does a private flight from Lagos to Abuja take?

Plan on about 1h05 wheels-up to wheels-down in a jet such as the Phenom 300 or Learjet 45, and around 1h20 in a King Air 350i. Taxiing, the odd hold for Abuja traffic and the walk to the car add another 20 to 30 minutes.

By road it is about 750 km and most of a day. Very few people drive it twice.

Which airports and terminals are used?

In Lagos, private flights leave from Murtala Muhammed International (LOS) in Ikeja, through the general aviation terminal rather than the busy domestic terminals. In Abuja you arrive at Nnamdi Azikiwe International (ABV). From there, allow 40 minutes to an hour to Maitama, Wuse or the Central Business District, and more if you land in the evening rush.

The slowest part of the trip is getting to Ikeja

If you are leaving from Victoria Island, Ikoyi or Lekki, the drive to the airport is the least predictable part of the day. Off-peak it can be 40 minutes. On a weekday morning across Third Mainland Bridge it can be well over two hours.

Set the take-off time once you have seen the traffic, not before. Most operators can move a private departure by half an hour without fuss, as long as the crew’s duty time allows it.

What decides the price?

Three things, in roughly this order: the aircraft you choose, whether it has to fly back empty, and fuel. Jet A1 in Nigeria is expensive by regional standards and supply has been tight at times, and operators pass that cost through.

The table above prices every aircraft that can fly the route, live, with positioning and fees included. Use it as your starting point rather than a figure from an old article.

Paying in naira. Most quotes are set in US dollars and converted on the day you pay. At around ₦1,350 to the dollar in late October 2026, every US$1,000 of a quote is roughly ₦1.35 million.

Same-day trips

Abuja and back before dinner

A lot of Lagos–Abuja charters are a meeting in Abuja and home the same evening. If the aircraft and crew wait for you, nobody pays for two empty repositioning flights, and the engine compares both options when you price a return. Tell the operator the latest time you might leave Abuja, because that decides how long the crew can wait.

Jet or turboprop?

On a sector this short, a King Air 350i is hard to beat on value and seats up to around eight with normal luggage. A light jet saves about a quarter of an hour and gives you a quieter, faster cabin, which is why it is the usual pick when the trip is about arriving fresh for a meeting. Larger delegations move up to a Legacy 600 or Challenger 605, which seat 11 to 13.

Harmattan and the rains

From roughly December to February the harmattan carries dust haze down from the Sahara, and visibility at Abuja can drop far enough to delay or divert flights. Leave some slack in the schedule on those mornings.

In the rainy season, roughly April to October, thunderstorms tend to build in the afternoon. An earlier departure usually means a smoother ride.

Is the aircraft allowed to carry you?

Only operators holding an Air Operator Certificate from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority may sell charter flights. A privately owned jet flown on a Permit for Non-Commercial Flights is not allowed to be hired out, and the NCAA has warned the public about exactly this. Ask for the operator’s AOC before you pay. A legitimate operator will not mind the question.

What to send for an accurate quote

Send the date and the time you want to leave, every passenger’s name as it appears on their ID, the number of bags, where you are heading in Abuja, whether you need a return and when, and how many security staff travel with you. Ask whether positioning, handling, parking and crew allowances are in the price, and how payment works.

Lagos to Abuja private jet prices by group size and trip

The same route priced for different trips. Charter is sold by the aircraft, not the seat, so the cost per person falls as more people fly, and a return is often far cheaper than two one-ways.

How much is a private jet from Lagos to Abuja for 8 passengers?

About US$11,300 one-way for the whole aircraft in a King Air 350i (1h 21m in the air), or roughly US$1,412 per seat. For two passengers the cheapest option is US$11,300. These are live estimates including positioning, airport and navigation fees.

How much does a return private jet from Lagos to Abuja cost?

For four passengers, a same-day return costs about US$11,800 in a King Air 350i, 1.0 times the one-way estimate of US$11,300. Flying back after three nights costs about US$22,400; the engine compares keeping the aircraft and crew with you against two separate rotations and uses the cheaper. A one-way price already pays for the aircraft to fly home empty, which is why a return costs far less than two one-ways.

Estimates as of 30 October 2026: whole aircraft in US dollars, including positioning, airport and navigation fees; returns include crew overnight and standby costs or two rotations, whichever is cheaper. The operator confirms the final price. Compare every route in the Africa Private Jet Price Index.
