Worth knowing first: Hosea Kutako International, Windhoek’s main airport, is about 45 km east of the city. If your Namibia trip starts with a fly-in safari, you may not need to go into Windhoek at all: clear immigration at Hosea Kutako and connect straight to the light aircraft.

How long is the flight from Cape Town to Windhoek?

About 690 nautical miles. A Phenom 300, CJ3+ or Challenger 350 flies it in a little over two hours, and a Citation Mustang in about two and a half. The Pilatus PC-12 and King Air family take around three hours, and a single-engine Caravan about four and a half. By road it is roughly 1,500 km, a two-day drive up through the Northern Cape and across the Orange River.

Which Windhoek airport?

Hosea Kutako International (WDH), east of the city, handles international arrivals, so this is where you clear Namibian immigration and customs. Eros (ERS), the small airport on the edge of town, is used mostly by light aircraft and domestic flights. Some safari connections leave from Eros, which means a short drive across Windhoek if yours does.

Entry into Namibia

South African passport holders do not need a visa for a holiday visit. Namibia changed its rules in 2025 and now requires visas from many European, North American and other travellers, issued online or on arrival. Check each passenger’s nationality before booking.

Namibia from the air

Onward to Sossusvlei, Etosha and the Skeleton Coast

Distances in Namibia are huge and many roads are gravel, so fly-in safaris are normal at the top end. Light aircraft from Windhoek reach the lodges near Sossusvlei in about an hour and Etosha’s private reserves in a little more; the Skeleton Coast camps are further. Ask whether the same aircraft can continue after immigration, or whether you change to a safari plane.

Which aircraft fits the route?

For a couple or a family of four, a Citation Mustang or Pilatus PC-12 is often enough, and the PC-12 has one real advantage here: it can use many gravel airstrips, so you can go further without changing aircraft. Larger groups, or anyone carrying a lot of camera gear, are better off in a CJ3+, Phenom 300 or Challenger 350.

What moves the price

The aircraft type, where it is based and what happens after Windhoek. Light jets based in Cape Town start where you do; many turboprops come from Johannesburg and have to position first. If the aircraft waits in Namibia for a week it costs parking and crew hotels; if it flies home and comes back, you pay for two extra sectors. The engine compares both.

Quotes are usually in rand or US dollars, and the Namibian dollar is pegged one-to-one to the rand. At about R16.60 to the US dollar in late October 2026, every US$1,000 is roughly R16,600.

What to send for an accurate quote

Send your dates, passenger count and nationalities, luggage including camera gear (soft bags if you continue by light aircraft), your lodges in Namibia and your return date. Ask whether positioning, handling, parking, crew accommodation and any onward light-aircraft legs are included.

The same route priced for different trips. Charter is sold by the aircraft, not the seat, so the cost per person falls as more people fly, and a return is often far cheaper than two one-ways.

How much is a private jet from Cape Town to Windhoek for 8 passengers?

About US$15,000 one-way for the whole aircraft in a Cessna Grand Caravan EX (4h 35m in the air), or roughly US$1,875 per seat. For two passengers the cheapest option is US$15,000. These are live estimates including positioning, airport and navigation fees.

How much does a return private jet from Cape Town to Windhoek cost?

For four passengers, a same-day return costs about US$18,700 in a Citation Mustang, 1.2 times the one-way estimate of US$15,000. Flying back after three nights costs about US$29,300; the engine compares keeping the aircraft and crew with you against two separate rotations and uses the cheaper. A one-way price already pays for the aircraft to fly home empty, which is why a return costs far less than two one-ways.

Estimates as of 30 October 2026: whole aircraft in US dollars, including positioning, airport and navigation fees; returns include crew overnight and standby costs or two rotations, whichever is cheaper. The operator confirms the final price. Compare every route in the Africa Private Jet Price Index.
